Research and
Strategic Thinking
I have significant experience managing and technically leading donor-funded projects. I have directly managed projects on social cohesion, violence prevention, countering violent extremism, and refugee resilience. This work has concentrated in South Africa in communities that have experienced xenophobic violence; and in Tanzania and Mozambique in communities affected by violent extremism. I am currently working with Wahana Visi, Indonesia, offering technical input to their flagship local governance and social accountability program in Papua region.
I have extensively researched and written for multiple audiences, including in top peer-reviewed academic journals, policy papers, research-to-action reports, and strategy documents. My work has been academically cited almost 200 times, showing clear impact in a number of disciplines. I have managed diverse research teams in challenging contexts in research-to-action projects. As an independent consultant, I have produced strategic documents for clients on democracy and governance, peacebuilding, and localisation approaches. As Senior Research Lead, I have produced case studies on a gender-inclusive Just Transition, and xenophobia in Southern Africa.
